English Basic Writing Skills
Basic writing skills
Writing is a necessary skill in mastering the English language. It is particularly critical in learning English as a Second Language. For learners, writing is much more difficult, complex, and challenging to master than speaking, as it involves handwriting, spelling, flow, and punctuations, as well as the need to generate and organize ideas into comprehensible texts. Students lack an understanding of the compositional aspect of English writing and do not view their English written texts as a means of communication. So, to overcome these challenges they need to master writing skills basic. These basic writing skills include spelling, capitalization, punctuation, handwriting and keyboarding, and sentence structure (e.g., learning to eliminate run-ons and sentence fragments). Basic writing skills are sometimes called the “mechanics” of writing. Also, the content, organizations, vocabulary and mechanics are very crucial for students. Improving writing skills is a key to academic success that needs to be mastered by every student.
The next two ideas are among very important way that students should follow to be successful in writing skills:
- Read, Read and Read
The most important thing in the world to a writer is reading. It’s one thing to have a great idea in your head but if you don’t know how to put it down in words, it won’t do you any good.
Reading allows writers to understand how words can be used and how they can affect readers. It’s also a way for writers to see what other people are doing with their skills and learn from them.
- Write Every Day
If you want your writing skills to improve, then you need to write every day. You’ll find that when you start writing more often, it will become easier and easier each time until one day it becomes second nature and something that is no longer difficult for you.
